Great interview. I was just submitting a pitch (for an article) yesterday and had to look up what "clips" meant. I figured it out, but if only I'd read this before. 😄 Good luck with your memoir journey!
Thanks for sharing this unfiltered interview! As someone also writing a memoir, it's all so frustrating. Especially when I walk into the bookstore and see memoirs in my genre by people I have no idea who they are (so, not celebrities or anyone with "a platform"). But then we're told that's all that matters! The conflicting advice is insane.
I feel that! I’m also struggling with how to work on both at the same time… platform and writing the actual book. On the other hand, it also makes sense to me that agents and publishers want to see that you can market and sell your work. So tough! Are we crazy to try? Haha. What’s your memoir about?
Crazy indeed...and also I was under the I guess mistaken impression that it was THEIR job to market and sell my book..!! 😅 maybe I'm crazy, but who knows. Mine is about my 900 mile hike (which I wrote about on Substack but have pay walled most of it) which is also tied into the story of how I was drawn to death doula work. Both helped me learn how to enjoy life, instead of drifting numbly through it...something other people seem to struggle with as well.

Thank you! 😊 Good luck with your pitch! I’ll try to share more as I learn it—about book publishing, memoir writing, and pitching essays/articles! ✍️
