I struggle so much with the marketing piece - I have to put it aside for now as it messes with my mental health. I do the best I can, I appreciate her honesty! Thanks for sharing !
You're welcome! I agree, very interesting interview, and I love how candid Katya is! Make sure to check out her book. ;) Regarding social media/marketing/author platform—I agree! I'm mainly just focusing on consistency here on Substack as I work on my memoir, and then I'll tackle the next channel later!
Katya! I just thought of one more question. Do you have any tips for finding a well-suited critique group? Would love to learn a little more about that!
hello! reddit and instagram is a great way to find a critique group. A lot of people on reddit post that they're looking to start one/have one and that's a great way to join. On insta you can connect with other writers and ask to join/or start one. I did neither of these things, but if I did not have a critique group, this is what I would do. My good friend, Sasha Vasilyuk (her book is called 'Your Presence is Mandatory') actually submitted one of my chapters in my proposal to her critique group and they voted me in. We met on the former twitter and my relationship with her has changed my life.
Thanks for sharing! I’ve been trying to following more writers/like-minded people on Instagram lately. And I’m also in some slack groups with writer so prob a good idea to ask around in there! I’m just always afraid of getting too much feedback or the wrong feedback. But I guess it’s all helpful!
This is a great interview.
